I'm no longer a carb-noob and the Corvair's back to road duty.

I must shamefully admit that I'm still inexperienced with carbs. And that's despite my love of side-draft Webers (mostly the look) but I'm much more involved with fuel injection.
Would it be a sin that if I got an old muscle car, the first thing I would do would rig up an old Bosch mechanical FI system on it? I just love the idea of a hack job TBI system on an old car, with old school tuning, sort of like what they did when the Corvette or the 280z switched to fuel injection.

Congratulations! Carbs work by black magic as far as I know.

My Landy has a Rochester BV in it. Works quite well since I rebuilt it, generally speaking - though it's been apart a couple times since then for bad gas.

I'm so scared of carbs. They are one of the few things on cars that I don't know anything about. If someone brings one up to me and asks me a question, I just scream and run away.

Sweet. I can do SU carbs. They're simple as you like. Basically a vacuum pulls a plunger out of the carb, attached to which is a tapered needle which normally fits snugly into a hole that leads to the fuel pot. When the plunger is raised, it opens slightly and the flow of air into the cylinders drags fuel out.
Anything else baffles me at the moment. I'm sure I could get my head around it, but I haven't anything to practice on.

I had a little confusion when I opened it and one of the two carbs contained a part not in the above diagram in a place that the other didn't. Someone who had worked on it before me threw in parts that didn't belong.
